Why now is the time to buy diamond jewellery

Before Christmas, the first occasion that comes to mind when it comes to shopping is Black Friday. Only, after so very many "Black" events with fake discounts, once bitten, twice shy, as the saying goes.

Since we are not dealing with everyday consumer goods, buying a piece of gold jewellery with diamonds has certain particularities we should bear in mind.

Now or later?

In principle, it all depends on exactly what you want to buy. If you want an engagement ring you should, in any case, allow yourself about two months' head start before presenting it. With gold wedding rings it is different, because there are two of you and... as the saying goes, "where two stand together, strength grows and the enemy gains no ground". Who is the enemy? It depends. It might be haste, it might be indecision, or the mother-in-law.

Joking aside, buying a valuable piece of jewellery calls for a little involvement from whoever makes the purchase. As we were saying, with engagement rings the task falls entirely on him. So... you manage. Online or offline. You search until you find it and hope she likes it.

The best approach is this: first online, then go and see people in the shop. It is the safest way and gives you the chance to gather the maximum amount of information so that the purchase is a success, whatever kind of jewellery you are buying.

When does everyone go mad?

On Black Friday, in December and on Valentine's Day.

Lucian Constantinescu of Diamante.ro/FIRESQ says: "The best times to buy diamond jewellery are autumn and spring, but you can also wait for a promotion, as long as you are not in too much of a hurry. It should be added that we are talking about 18-carat gold jewellery with internationally certified diamonds, and anyone who catches a discount should be delighted. Why? Because we are talking about valuable designer pieces, crafted to the highest standards of quality."

Coming back to timing, it is very important to make up your mind when you are giving a gift and to think less about the discount. To stand a chance of getting a piece of jewellery exactly as you want it, you need time. If you want a bespoke design, time becomes an essential factor.

"I have always said: a diamond piece of jewellery is never expensive, it is valuable. This is beginning to be very well understood by our customers, and that delights us."

There are many things to clarify, from the initial idea to the piece of jewellery itself. Conversations with the designer, visits to the shop or searches on the website.

Do not confuse it with buying a smart TV or a laptop. Although the sums involved may be the same, a diamond piece of jewellery asks more attention of you. Treat it with respect and it will shine forever.

Work in IT? Here's What You Can Invest Your Money In!

Because you do what you love or because you chose the right degree, you've come to earn enough not to have to worry about... next month. You're probably a programmer or a network manager, or you do some other job in front of a computer. Your friends and neighbours call you, in the conversations you're not part of, "the IT guy".

Your income is rather lovely and you can afford to do things to standards above the national average. You go on relatively exotic trips, you've bought yourself an electric car (even if you're paying it off in instalments, it isn't taking the food off your plate) and you're thinking of moving into a bigger house.

Have you thought about diamonds?

Beyond these options, let's call them "classic", there's also one that far too few people talk about: investing in internationally certified diamonds. Take note! We're not talking about gold jewellery now, but about precious stones certified by prestigious gemological laboratories and backed by solid guarantees.

We asked Lucian Constantinescu (Diamante.ro/FIRESQ) roughly how things happen in this market that seems so inaccessible: "It's very clear that a precious stone is an investment, only we need to keep a few things in mind. It's best to do your homework before investing. Only coloured diamonds are the ones whose price rises over time. Colourless ones hold a steady value, with very slight fluctuations. They look fabulous in a pair of earrings or on an engagement ring, but they're less interesting as an investment in themselves."

To wear a piece of gold jewellery with IGL- or GIA-certified diamonds, or to give one as a gift, means that you respect yourself and that you're extremely careful about what you spend your money on. The value of a piece of jewellery doesn't lie in the grams of gold it was crafted from. Things are a little more complex and more interesting than that.

"A buyer of internationally certified diamond jewellery wants to know exactly what they're spending their money on. Under no circumstances do they expect to find 14kt gold or jewellery made from traded-in gold at our place. That's not how we work. We've set certain standards. After 23 years, we offer a complete experience both offline and online, so that customers make safe purchases in full knowledge of the facts", says Lucian Constantinescu (Diamante.ro).

Investing in precious stones

The power a diamond has to fascinate should never be underestimated. The word "precious" in the phrase above is fully justified. There are aspects an investor "senses" without needing to see or touch a diamond. Even if the stone isn't set in a piece of jewellery, its value in itself is what makes an investor act.

Moving on to "business", we asked Lucian Constantinescu (Diamante.ro) for a few concrete figures so we could better understand what it's all about: "We're a diamond jewellery workshop, but we don't overlook our customers' need to invest in precious stones either. On the site we have an online stock updated in real time that can guide an investor. Over 50,000 brilliants are in this online stock. And since we're talking figures, I'll tell you that, for example, over 3 years, 3-carat diamonds rose in value by 145% and pink 5-carat ones by 171%. Of course, we're talking large values in absolute terms. To understand what this is about, here's a little piece of "gossip" for you: diamonds over 25 carats have their own name. As for the price, there's no point even mentioning it."

How do you start and how much does it cost?

The basic formula for calculating the price of a diamond is

Price = w2 x c (where w is the weight in carats and c is the base price of a 1ct stone)

Starting from here, a scale looks like this:

1ct = $1,000

2ct = $4,000

5ct = $25,000

10ct = $100,000

But these are base prices that you start from. Things are a little more complicated because there are (at least) 4 factors that influence the price of a cut diamond: carat, colour, clarity and cut. These variables take on values that produce an impressive number of combinations and... prices. So it's best not to make any rash move. That is, don't start investing on your own. Ask a specialist, go to a physical shop and get all the information you need.

"It's essential to ask a consultant who knows exactly what they're selling. At our physical shops in Constanța and Bucharest there are people who have been doing precisely this for decades. No customer leaves with unanswered questions. We offer all the support needed so that any purchase, whether of a piece of jewellery or of internationally IGL- or GIA-certified diamonds, is 100% safe. We're professionals in what we do and we feel that, after so many years, people are beginning to appreciate it when a brand respects them and keeps its promises", says Lucian Constantinescu of Diamante.ro/FIRESQ.

Perhaps we've whetted your "appetite" to find out more, and that was exactly the aim. Look for information, online and offline, then make a smart decision.
