How Do You Choose a Diamond Jewellery Piece?

You know for certain that you want to buy diamond jewellery, but you don't know exactly what it should be like, because if you ask the recipient too many questions, then... where's the surprise?

Making the choice calls for an "information-gathering session" beforehand. You draw on every online source and try to make up your mind.

We asked Lucian Constantinescu (Diamante.ro/FIRESQ) roughly what aspects a buyer should keep in mind when preparing for a purchase:

"The main element of a piece of jewellery is the precious stone — in our case the diamond — because there are the other stones too, rubies, sapphires, emeralds and a few of the fine stones, but diamonds reign supreme! They are the most sought-after. We use only internationally certified natural diamonds, which gives our customers the guarantee that we work solely with natural precious stones".

The "proactive" search for information also means knowing how to listen to advice from someone with the professional expertise to recommend a spectacular piece of jewellery that will stay in the family for generations.

And here haste or lack of knowledge can lead to unhappy decisions: "The most common mistake a customer can make is to choose a diamond with a top colour and clarity and then have it set in a ring that doesn't show it off to advantage: for example, you can take a white diamond — D, E or F, the main grades — and set it in a yellow gold ring. Then the diamond will borrow the colour of the band, of the ring, and will no longer reveal its D, E or F grade.

In that case I advise the customer to go for a larger carat on the diamond and to choose a more mid-range grade when it comes to colour. That way we work towards a correct value-for-quality ratio. You see, without the right information, a customer can invest in a ring that doesn't "show" the value of the investment at all. If you don't choose them properly, you risk 'cancelling out' the show-stopping effect of the jewellery. Of course, the final decision belongs entirely to the customer", says Lucian Constantinescu of Diamante.ro

Firesc, legitimate questions arise

You perhaps don't need to be "obsessed" with luxury or diamonds to ask yourself "OK, but what's all this for? What use is jewellery to me?" or "who will it be left to?".

Well, things are quite simple. Investing in a piece of gold and diamond jewellery carries great symbolic and spiritual weight. It somehow goes beyond the "material" and reaches that "forever" which has already entered history.

Diamonds fascinate, gold ennobles. The power of these precious materials is beyond doubt. To own a pair of white gold wedding rings, for example, or any other kind of diamond jewellery (an engagement ring) is like possessing an immeasurable inner strength.

This kind of jewellery is given with love and passed on as an heirloom.

"After 24 years on the Romanian market we already have beautiful stories. And they are far from few. We have cases of jewellery bought in '95 – '96 and, after years of being worn by a mother or grandmother, they were passed on, and the daughter or granddaughter came in with that ring to have it remade. It's quite an important thing that the maker can remake your ring even after more than 20 years", says Lucian Constantinescu of Diamante.ro/FIRESQ.

Whether we're talking about the winter holidays or the important moments in a couple's life, gift ideas are welcome at just about any time of year. Of course, budget is an important aspect of the choice you make, and when it comes to diamond jewellery, things take on many shades. The word "cheap" is out of the question, and another takes its place: "valuable".
We've put together as relevant a selection as possible from one of the most representative specialist sites in Romania. We put ourselves in the shoes of a shopper determined to give a special gift to someone dear. The selection isn't easy to make, but shopping online helps a great deal. For extra confidence or a piece of advice, if you happen to be passing through Bucharest or Constanța, you can visit the shop of this brand, which has an online presence as well.
Naturally, there you can seek advice and obtain all the information you're missing. But you can also do this by phone, in comfort, from in front of your laptop screen. So we've chosen a few pieces of jewellery that could turn into a precious gift. Whether we're talking about engagement rings or white-gold wedding rings, or earrings or pendants, our selection remains subjective... like any selection. We begin with a set of wedding rings with a Flat-Comfort profile (domed on the inside and flat on the outside). The lady's band has 5 brilliant-cut diamonds, set slightly apart along the white-gold groove. The design, with its simple lines, shows the precious stones off beautifully. If you both agree to say YES to this pair of wedding rings, then... they're yours.

An engagement ring with a rather surprising approach to design is made of white gold with a solitaire diamond, "suspended" in a modern, sophisticated setting. She will surely appreciate this valuable ring.

Moving on from these "specific" pieces to the somewhat broader category of diamond jewellery, we've chosen a few pieces that, naturally, impressed us either through their design or through the setting that showed the precious stones to their best advantage. An 18kt gold ring with a star-shaped design, displaying a citrine (4.25mm; 0.28ct) and 22 white brilliant-cut diamonds (0.36ct total), leaves a strong impression both on the woman wearing it and on those who look at her.
bijuterii diamante
It really could be the perfect gift for a lady or young lady who can't wait to be transformed into a princess. If the natural sapphire appeals to you, you can choose an 18kt white-gold ring with 50 white diamonds totalling 0.35ct and a central octagon-cut sapphire (7.00x5.00mm) weighing 1.17ct. The stone's discreet blue will awaken admiration.

The selection we're presenting also includes a pair of earrings crafted in 18kt white gold with a square setting, featuring 18 brilliants (1.00mm) adding up to 0.11ct and 8 sapphires, likewise in a square cut (2.25x2.25mm), with a total weight of 0.78ct.

They can be matched with any elegant dress at the Christmas or New Year's Eve party, because the sapphire has a touch of "chameleon" about it and helps you a great deal in coordinating your clothes. It all depends on the light and the angle from which you look. For the soul, we've kept for near the end this cross pendant in 18kt yellow gold, displaying a central diamond of 0.23ct (3.70mm) accompanied by 20 brilliants with a total weight of 0.16ct. Protective and valuable, it could be a gift that's hard to forget.
bijuterii diamante
A versatile piece is this brooch/pendant in 18kt white gold with 36 black diamonds (0.27ct total) in a floral design of medieval inspiration. Ideal for more demanding outfits, in which it lets itself be admired and discovered. For office outfits or for an event, monogram cufflinks crafted in 18kt rose gold can be another fitting gift. Graced with 20 white diamonds (1.25mm) totalling 0.17ct, they can be personalised with any initials.
