How Do You Choose a Diamond Jewellery Piece?

You know for certain that you want to buy diamond jewellery, but you don't know exactly what it should be like, because if you ask the recipient too many questions, then... where's the surprise?

Making the choice calls for an "information-gathering session" beforehand. You draw on every online source and try to make up your mind.

We asked Lucian Constantinescu (Diamante.ro/FIRESQ) roughly what aspects a buyer should keep in mind when preparing for a purchase:

"The main element of a piece of jewellery is the precious stone — in our case the diamond — because there are the other stones too, rubies, sapphires, emeralds and a few of the fine stones, but diamonds reign supreme! They are the most sought-after. We use only internationally certified natural diamonds, which gives our customers the guarantee that we work solely with natural precious stones".

The "proactive" search for information also means knowing how to listen to advice from someone with the professional expertise to recommend a spectacular piece of jewellery that will stay in the family for generations.

And here haste or lack of knowledge can lead to unhappy decisions: "The most common mistake a customer can make is to choose a diamond with a top colour and clarity and then have it set in a ring that doesn't show it off to advantage: for example, you can take a white diamond — D, E or F, the main grades — and set it in a yellow gold ring. Then the diamond will borrow the colour of the band, of the ring, and will no longer reveal its D, E or F grade.

In that case I advise the customer to go for a larger carat on the diamond and to choose a more mid-range grade when it comes to colour. That way we work towards a correct value-for-quality ratio. You see, without the right information, a customer can invest in a ring that doesn't "show" the value of the investment at all. If you don't choose them properly, you risk 'cancelling out' the show-stopping effect of the jewellery. Of course, the final decision belongs entirely to the customer", says Lucian Constantinescu of Diamante.ro

Firesc, legitimate questions arise

You perhaps don't need to be "obsessed" with luxury or diamonds to ask yourself "OK, but what's all this for? What use is jewellery to me?" or "who will it be left to?".

Well, things are quite simple. Investing in a piece of gold and diamond jewellery carries great symbolic and spiritual weight. It somehow goes beyond the "material" and reaches that "forever" which has already entered history.

Diamonds fascinate, gold ennobles. The power of these precious materials is beyond doubt. To own a pair of white gold wedding rings, for example, or any other kind of diamond jewellery (an engagement ring) is like possessing an immeasurable inner strength.

This kind of jewellery is given with love and passed on as an heirloom.

"After 24 years on the Romanian market we already have beautiful stories. And they are far from few. We have cases of jewellery bought in '95 – '96 and, after years of being worn by a mother or grandmother, they were passed on, and the daughter or granddaughter came in with that ring to have it remade. It's quite an important thing that the maker can remake your ring even after more than 20 years", says Lucian Constantinescu of Diamante.ro/FIRESQ.
